I’m a creature of habit, but I’ll chase a great cup of coffee anywhere. Oklahoma City has a way of turning that simple pursuit into a full afternoon, and this list is proof.

You can climb to a book-filled lounge above the street for an affogato, then drop into a place where the owner puts on vinyl records and pours the best espresso martini in town. I’ve included the neighborhood anchor with its reliable grilled cheese and the museum cafe where the miso chocolate cookie makes you pause.

These places range from a spot where you bring your own food and read by a window to a counter serving tender baked plantains that disappeared from my plate in minutes. All I ask is that you take your time.

Here’s where to start.

I climbed the stairs to Perets and felt like I had found a private club. The second-floor lounge has cozy rooms filled with books and games, which is exactly my kind of escape. I ordered an affogato, and the dessert was fabulous, rich espresso poured over smooth ice cream. The space itself encourages lingering, and Friday nights bring live music that adds a warm hum to the room. It is not a quiet library kind of place, but it is welcoming and unhurried. I could easily spend an afternoon here with a book, a sweet treat, and no agenda. That is a real win.

Steak with black garlic shines
Modern space, fun group seating
Service is outstanding and attentive
Beautifully presented, bold flavor misses
Pricey drinks, salty sides disappoint

Culprits has a modern space and fun group seating, which I appreciated for its energy. The steak with black garlic is the clear winner here; it was tender and deeply savory. However, some of the other dishes missed the mark on bold flavor, even though they were beautifully presented. The drinks are pricey, and a few of the sides came out too salty for my taste. Still, the service is outstanding and attentive, and they made sure I felt looked after. I left with mixed feelings, but the steak alone gives me reason to return. I would come back for that dish specifically.
